ABOUT THE WRITER
Jean Gideon (Deon) Kesting was born in 1928 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was Emeritus Professor in Librarianship of the University of Cape Town, where he had spent the last fifteen years of his academic career, retiring there in 1991. Former appointments in academic librarianship were at the universities of South Africa, Port Elizabeth, Stellenbosch, and Toronto (Canada). His post-retirement interests included nature, amateur botany, wildflower photography, haiku poetry, and religion-as-God-consciousness.
Professor Kesting married Hélène Lötter in 1962. He passed away in 2016, followed by Hélène's passing in 2017. There only surviving offspring are their literary productions—published and unpublished.
'First in the Unseen' was originally published in 2010 in the language of Afrikaans, and subsequently translated to English. Prior to his passing, Professor Kesting entrusted his original draft manuscripts to a close friend and confidante, with the expressed wish that his work be edited and formally published in English, to reach a broader readership. It is our intent to honour that wish.
May they rest in peace, Deon and Hélène.
